I have 12 pages to fill on indesign, great, sigh. Illustrator is defiantly a tricky one, actually on that note, all of the adobe programs are really hard when you first start, big surprise. This seems to be the common trend in most of my blogging for these projects – how surprisingly difficult, tricky, and time consuming they all are. I defiantly have a new found respect for graphic designers, etc. I am closer to becoming an expert at these programs -that statement is a stretch – but ill amuse myself and live in the fantasy land of: sarah the graphic designer (HA)

anyway i think that i’m over my fear of these programs now, at least i hope i am, because here comes the big finale.

Im not thrilled with my poster for the illustrator project- there’s another stretch- its not really what i have in mind at all but i want to go in an re-work it a lot more (when i have the time of course). What i had envisioned, and what i produced- two very different things. On the positive side- i did learn alot about the program, and i am not completely hopeless with it. yay?

so now im about to look into all of the pictures i have collected- and come up with some type of theme for the project

So – i changed my mind for the last time. Since i have a car, and since i go through living hell everyday parking in metro vancouver, not to mention the dent it leaves in my wallet for parking it, i’m going to work on a poster that has to do with parking costs in Vancouver city- this is the last time i change my mind – PROMISE :)

ps. the theme of the poster will be parking meters as evil monsters. muahaha

so about last weeks idea – i changed my mind completely. I’d rather do an issue that is more personal to me, rather then something that is my cousins job. I was finding it hard to be inspired by her work, for this project that is, so instead i decided to become frustrated with the project again. My frustration lead to me drawing a ball and chain – like shackles – and it lead me to start work on Vancouver’s prostitution issue. I think this idea is one that I’d rather stick with, but how I’m going to get my point across, i have no idea at the moment. I came up with some very, um controversial ideas so far, but im still not sure entirely on this idea.

Okay, so heres the deal. My cousin works for “Free the Children”. Although this organization started in Toronto, it now has an office in Vancouver. They do many local events here, however, like “We Day”, that help bring together the young community and raise awarness.

I just texted her asking what some local programs are doing, and i have yet to hear from her about the information I want to use for this project. I think this would be a really cool way of doing something for a non-profit organization that is really just taking off in Vancouver, and I have easy access to all the information that i require for this project that i can collect from my cousin.

Blog Photo 3

This is how it turned out. It defiantly was not something that i expectedbut this series came together in another way for me.I found the process very frustrating, there is so many options with photoshop that it is hard to know where to start and if it is possible to ever stop.

I have a huge collection of pictures left over from this project, but here are a few of where and what i started with…

So I decided to use only the original green car in the series. The photographs from the two other cars did not seem as “realistic” as i had hoped they would be. But I think this works well, especially in a series.

So as i edit these photos i’ve taken, i realize how broad my idea was to begin with, which made narrowing down the original plan to make it practical..

I bought three new hotwheels from Toy r’ Us and began my manipulated series journey.First of all, it looks a lot easier when Suzi showed us photoshop in class, as i am a first time user, it took me a little longer then i expected to fimilarize myself with the program than i anticipated. So after many hours of struggling, and becoming more and more fustrated with my ideas, i finally narrowed down what it is exactly that i will be debating to print for next class.

FIRST series -

traffic lights in rural areasĀ  – i think this idea is the weakest, but regardless ill share it. I have many pictures of winnipeg and the rural areas and beachs around there so my idea was to place a traffic light in each one of these scenes and go from green to red.

SECOND series-

The mirror images – with hot wheels!!

the driver’s sidemirror – then the rear view – and finally end with the passenger sideview mirror with the text “objects are closer then they appear”

- all of these images would have hotwheels in them – just to suggest that time goes by quickly and somewhat of a childish twist with hot wheels in the mirrors kinda to represent looking back.

THIRD series- Hand holding hot wheels … with a cityscape. (New York Central Park)

Have and enhanced version of the front windows of each of the hot wheels with a hand holding them – then because i bought three different colours of hot wheels in different styles, i enhanced the colour of each of them to make the distorted image really bright. Then after doing this I realized that it would be way cooler to kinda follow up with the first traffic light idea with the car colour as well. But since i orginally purchased a green, yellow and white car, that would be re-shooting another car in red.

I hope these descriptions make sense … for now its back to the drawingboard.

I am happy to report that I have finally made a decision on the subject matter for this project – cruise. For the background I want to have either inside or related images to cars. The foreground images will be related the the background – I haven’t quite made a decision as to which ones I will choose yet, but examples I have come up with are things like construction signs, traffic signals, etc. I want to use the mirrors and dashboards as the road, and as the journey continues through the series, the car will travel to different places. Distorted images, like those you see while you are driving, will be central to the series as well. This is just a rough sketch, but I think it could be good, especially since I am obsessed with cars and racing!!

Today we had a workshop on the Digital Output Center. We need to have a photograph for the first project- – Imaging the impossible dream.

1) We need to make a series with three manipulated images, minimum requirement 8 x 10

2) Must be a scanned or digital picture

3) What the heck will I choose as my subject matter?!?!?!

Hello Everyone! Today is my official first day of “blogging” – hmm… wish me luck?
